Screw Neck vs Crimp Neck: Which Closure Is Right for You?
One of the first decisions in setting up a fragrance line isn't about the liquid at all — it's how the pump attaches to the bottle. The two most common options are crimp neck and screw neck, and each has a genuinely different fit, filling process, and equipment requirement.
We've just added four new screw neck fragrance bottles to the range — the Clayton, the 50ml and 100ml Charlotte, and the Everest — along with a matching SNI15 gloss silver atomiser pump. So it felt like the right time to break down how the two closure types compare.
How Crimp Neck Works
A crimp neck bottle has a metal collar that sits over the pump's collar and is mechanically crimped — squeezed and folded — onto the glass neck using a crimping tool. It's the traditional method used across much of the fragrance industry, particularly for higher-end and larger-scale production.
How Screw Neck Works
A screw neck bottle has a threaded glass neck that a matching threaded pump collar screws directly onto — no tools, no crimping, just twisting on by hand.

So Which One Should You Use?
Crimp neck remains a strong, well-established choice, particularly for larger runs going through established fragrance fillers where a permanent seal is expected. Screw neck is a straightforward alternative if you'd rather not invest in a crimping tool — especially for smaller batches, in-house filling, or when you want the flexibility to swap pumps easily.
