Miron® glass

Questions & answers

Everything you need to know about ordering, using and recycling Miron® glass. If your question isn't here, please contact us.

Ordering

Is there a minimum order quantity?

There's no minimum order on standard lines, and trade quantities are available. Some products are sold in pack sizes; check each product page or contact us for volume pricing.

How precise are the dimensions listed?

Dimensions shown with a tolerance (±) are precise. Others are approximate. For label dimensions, please contact our team.

Can you supply other types of glass?

Yes. Alongside Miron glass, we stock clear, amber and coloured glass across our wider range.

About the glass

Is Miron® glass the same as UV glass or dark glass?

UV glass and dark glass are common search terms for light-filtering glass packaging. Miron® glass can look almost black, but it is a specific deep violet glass, designed to selectively filter light: it reduces transmission across specific wavelengths while allowing selected wavelengths, not all light, to pass through. Results vary by formulation and storage conditions.

Why is it called violet glass when it looks almost black?

Look through a single wall of the bottle or jar towards a bright light and you'll see the violet colour.

How do I know it's genuine Miron® glass?

Each container carries the Miron logo on its base. On wide cosmetic jars, the logo sits between the threads.

How does Miron® glass work?

Miron glass is designed to selectively filter light, reducing transmission across specific wavelengths while allowing selected wavelengths to pass through. Light is one of several factors in how a product changes, alongside oxygen, temperature, moisture and handling.

What is the hot-end coating?

A protective layer sprayed on the glass at around 600°C as it leaves the furnace, which helps prevent scratches during transport and filling.

Why is glass so hygienic?

Glass doesn't release anything into a product or absorb anything from it, it's waterproof and gas-proof, resists chemicals, and can easily be sterilised.

Using your glass

Can I store liquids in apothecary jars?

We don't recommend it, as liquids are hard to pour and there's a slight risk of leaking. They're ideal for spices, tea, solid honey, vitamins and dry goods.

My apothecary jar is hard to open. What should I do?

Tap the side of the lid gently with a wooden spoon to loosen it.

Can seals be used for any product?

No. Our pressure-sensitive seals are for dry products in jars only, as liquids react with the adhesive. Aluminium induction seals need a machine to apply.

How do I apply a seal?

Place the seal inside the lid with the printed side facing the lid, screw the lid onto the jar, and leave it closed for at least 24 hours.

Closures

If bottles share a neck finish, will the same closure fit?

Usually, but not always, as pumps have different dip-tube lengths. Check the compatible closures on each product page or ask our team.

Do other closures work with Miron® glass?

Most Miron glass uses industry-standard neck finishes. Ceres, Eris and Sirius jars and the Carina 500 ml vitamin jar have unique threads and need Miron closures. Test any third-party closure for fit and leaks first.

What do the neck finish numbers mean?

In a code like 18/400, the first number is the diameter in millimetres across the outside of the threads, and the second is the thread style. See Neck Finishes Explained.

Quality & deliveries

What quality checks does the glass go through?

Miron checks weight, capacity and dimensions, and production-line machines test wall thickness, cracks and impurities on samples throughout production.

What should I do when my order arrives?

Check the delivery for damage straight away and let us know about anything that isn't right.

What if I have a complaint?

Send us the item numbers and quantities, your order number, a description of the problem and photos of any damage at salesdesk@colouredbottles.co.uk, and we'll resolve it as quickly as possible.

Sustainability

Can Miron® glass be recycled?

Yes, the glass is 100% recyclable. It's also robust enough to be reused many times.

Can the closures be recycled?

Some closures are single-material (apothecary jar stoppers are all glass), while others, like pipettes, combine materials that need separating before disposal.

What is the recycling code?

Rules vary by country and region, so check what your local recycling scheme accepts.
